Irish Magician Keith Barry Hangs with Copperfield & Harrelson

Inside Magic Image of Keith Barry's Poster for The Dark SideMagician Keith Barry gets big space in Leanne Moore’s Showbiz Roundup – a must read for Irish entertainment fans.

Mr. Barry is back in his home country after walking the red carpet with David Copperfield at the premiere of Now You See Me.  Mr. Barry served as chief hypnotism and magic consultant for Woody Harrelson and the film’s writers.

We hear the movie is a “magic-based heist movie” — a genre we would like to see expand — and Mr. Barry dedicated more than six months to help the team “a very real edge to the film.”

Mr. Barry will begin his 12-night run of The Dark Side at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre starting on July 10th.  We initially thought the title referred to toast but apparently it is tied into magic and mystery rather than irregularly heated slices of bread.  Good choice, Mr. Barry.  According to a study we just made up, there are far more people who will pay to see magic and mystery than toast.

Keith Barry is coming back with a new show

Inside Magic Image of Keith Barry's Poster for the January 7, 2012 Appearance of Eight Deadly Sins How does a magician and/or mentalist top a great five week engagement at Dublin’s beautifully appointed Olympia Theatre (“theater”)?

Good question, that.

We asked a random sample of passers-by outside the Inside Magic editorial offices here in Mystic Hollow, Michigan.  Fortunately, the folks in this town know magic and magicians.  The question would make no sense otherwise.

Two of the twelve thought he should take over for Criss Angel in Las Vegas.  They were all of the opinion that Criss Angel has too much going on and that he needed to have a steady guest star.

A woman who describes herself as Criss Angel’s Number One Fan said she has seen the show five times and is not sure the Mindfreak Magician can keep it up.  “It is not an easy show to do and he’s got a lot going on so something is going to have to give.”

She knew of Keith Barry from his incredible television series here in the US.  on the Discovery Channel.  She raved about his work in the police station (the fourth episode titled “Cops and Robbers“).

One woman thought Keith Barry should perform at Victoria and Albert Hall in London.  She said the believed it was the equivalent of our Carnegie Hall.  Her friend corrected her that it was actually called The Royal Albert Hall and was built by his widow, Victoria.  Regardless, the first woman maintained, Mr. Barry would be perfect for such a “dignified setting.”

There were a smattering of non-statistically significant suggestions that we  have left out.

It turns out, Keith Barry will be back in theater (theatre in metric languages) with his killer show, Keith Barry – Eight Deadly Sins.

It will not be a long run.  Actually, it will be a very special, one-night only event on Saturday January 7 2012 at the beautifully appointed Royal Theatre Castlebar.

Keith Barry to Cure 10 of Flying Phobia

Keith-Barry-Helps-Amy-BlackCalling him “Ireland’s answer to David Copperfield,” The Evening Herald of Dublin splashed great press about local son Keith Barry.

Mr. Barry seeks ten Dubliners as test subjects with a morbid fear of flying.

Using no more than his powers or hypnotism, Mr. Barry will cure all ten of the phobia and accompany them on a Aer Arann flight to somewhere in Ireland or Scotland.

The Irish airline is very proud of the tie-in with Mr. Barry.

The amazing Mr. Barry will spend just 48 hours with the volunteers before the flight scheduled for July 10th.

Mr. Barry dismisses the phobia.  He told reporters “such fears are unfounded and are just a deeply-rooted mental issue.”

“I truly believe anyone can be cured of any fear. It is not that difficult to do. It’s my job to show people how they can help themselves.”

His selection method will hopefully provide a fine pool from which to choose the final ten subjects.

Mr. Barry is working with Dublin’s 98 radio station to find just the right folks.

Dublin radio station asking listeners to prove they deserve to experience the cure.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time because with some very clever thinking we can get rid of this terror they have, whether it’s of flying, or spiders, or whatever else,” Mr. Barry told The Evening Herald.
