Today?s Magic News is all good. There are no bad stories, no horrible tragedies, nothing to bring you down. In fact, it is almost too good. I know it?s the Irish in me that says when things are going this well, we?re due for something pretty bad pretty soon. Until then, enjoy the good news about our friends in the Magic Biz. I?m not saying that the news is perfect. I mean, it could be better. We could have a 24 hour a day Lance Burton Network on cable. I am sure they are working on it but until then, we have him available most of the days on several cable channels. Remember, if you have news to share of any kind ? even if it isn?t chipper and cheerful and positive and eco-friendly ? send it along to tim@insidemagic.com. … Today?s Magic News is all good. If you miss both of these presentations, you can still catch him at

Lance Burton
Mr. Burton said of the program, “The one-hour special serves up a close-up look at magic and the scientific principles behind the art including the optical, mechanical and psychological applications. Its focal point examines what intrigues people about magic. Good magic is flawless and we will take a sneak peak behind the magician’s curtain to learn the scientific principles behind grand illusions. Hopefully, this will provide food for thought for budding young magicians as well as be interesting to the general public.”
Additionally, “Lance Burton: Guerrilla Magic: Taking it to the Streets,” his great seriesfor The Animal Planet Network is set to air with new episodes this year.
And finally, Fox News will have an interview with Mr. Burton on Sunday, February 15th at 8 and 11pm on the Fox News Channel.

Bob Miller received some nice press from the Winona Daily News this morning for his work in the annual ?Reading on the Mall? event at the Winona Mall. Last year over 2,000 people attended the event that encourages reading and provides an enjoyable family activity in the winter. The program has been going on for at least 21 years.
Mr. Miller is a full-time, professional magician with a variety of shows and styles. For this reading focused event, he offered effects with a connection to the theme. “Since the emphasis is on reading here, I use a specific trick or message to tell kids about reading,” he said. He told the children that the trained himself by reading books on magic from the public library.
Mr. Miller launched Rochester Digital Magic, a digital and video service for websites, as well as professional and personal customers.

Alan Watson to Appear at Teddy Bear Picnic in New Zealand

One of my favorite newsletters to read each week is the Alan Watson ?Magic New Zealand? eZine. Mr. Watson does a great job of putting together the world-wide magic news for magicians world-wide. But he is apparently a modest man when it comes to his own good news. According to a press release from the Auckland City Counsel, Mr. Watson will be the featured performer at the Meadow Fresh Teddy Bears? Picnic, to be held on Sunday 22 February 2004. I had to recall that it is summer in New Zealand as I read about this outdoor event.

Vegas Ticket Prices Through the Roof

Celine Dion |
The Las Vegas Review-Journal has a neat article chronicling the phenomenon of the ?Big Show? in the casinos. The question asked: can there be an upper limit to price for the ?Big Show?? The article notes: ?[T]he highest ticket has gone from $72.85 for Siegfried & Roy — by a long mile more expensive than other shows of the day — during this week in 1994, to Celine Dion’s $225.? But that is the face value, if you wanted to see Celine tonight, it would cost you about $450 through a ticket broker.

Steve Hart Heads West to Motivate and Mystify

Steve Hart |
I understand from my friend Steve Hart that he?ll be making a swing to the West Coast from his home in Florida to perform and teach. He?ll be sending me more information soon and I?ll pass it along as soon as I receive it. I know that he?ll be at The Magic Castle during the last week of February and he is scheduled to lecture and provide a live workshop on Motivational Magic the Saturday before run at The Magic Castle.
Steve Hart has more energy than anyone I?ve met. If there is one person that could teach how motivated, it would be Mr. Hart. If you have a chance to catch his show at The Magic Castle, his lecture or his live workshop, I think you?ll be pleased.
