It never fails. Here we made fun of David Blaine just hours ago and then we read of his noble and brave efforts to help children in the northern cities of Israel.
We should know better. Note to Mr. Blaine: you're a good guy and good person — we just wish you did more magic. We want to see your tricks as much as your audiences in Israel or anywhere.
David Blaine visited with and entertained new Ethiopian immigrant children yesterday, just a few days after he emerged from an underground bomb shelter. Mr. Blaine has been in Israel over the past few weeks and unfortunately needed to protect him from missles fired from Lebanon.
"I am proud to come to this great country to perform," Mr. Blaine told the Jewish Agency correspondent. "I feel that if I'm able to put a smile on these wonderful people’s faces for just one minute, then I'm doing something good and my trip here has been worthwhile."
Mr. Blaine appeared at the Jewish Agency absorption center at Kibbutz Ayelet Hashahar.
Mr. Blaine's trip was partially sponsored by the Jewish Agency. A spokesperson for the organization said, "I was watching the situation unfold on television, and I became more and more frustrated. I saw these people sitting in the bomb shelters and I asked myself, what can I do to make these people smile?”
"He is an amazing person with a great heart. We decided that we were going to do this right away. So here we are."
