Oh Eun-young

Oh Eun-Young and Kim Jong-Soo Perform on Borneo.  We?ve never met these two magicians but have followed them for years.  Both masters are from South Korea and have gained international acclaim for their artistry, theatrical abilities and magic.

Mr. Jong-Soo recently toured with Jeff McBride on his Asian tour.  Ms. Oh Eun-Young left her position as a Asiana Air Flight Attendant to: 1) start a magic academy; 2) star on Korean television?s Comedy Club; 3) write a weekly magic column called ?Oh Eun-Young’s Love Magic?; 4) win the 2003 Eddy International Magic Convention Award in Hong Kong; 5) written the best sellers  “Oh Eun-Young’s Magic School” and “Magic Pang Pang, Science Pang Pang”; and teach as a professor at Dong-a In-jae University’s Department of Magic.

So she pretty much just lazes around; without a plan or any drive.  Not.

The duo performed for VIPs and diplomats on Monday and for the general public of Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday.  Korean Ambassador Mr Kim Woong-nam said that magic teaches people to have creative minds.

He said that there are only two places where you can learn magic in a university, one of them is in Korea, at the Dong-a In-jae University’s Magic Department. The show, said Mr Kim Woong-nam, will help to further promote cultural exchanges and build up ties between Korea and Brunei.

Siegfried and Roy

Nevada Supreme Court Upholds Siegfried & Roy?s Firing of Handler. The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of an animal handler who was fired from the “Siegfried and Roy” show. Bryan LaVoie filed suit in March 2000, saying he was wrongfully dismissed for submitting a workers’ compensation claim.

The claim was related to an injury he says he suffered when he was knocked down by one of the tigers. Justices upheld a lower court’s ruling in favor of S&R Production Company. The court also upheld the judge’s decision to award more than $51,000 in attorneys’ fees to S&R Production. LaVoie had claimed extreme emotional distress from his dismissal.

The court found LaVoie was an at-will employee who could be dismissed with or without cause and had a record of being disciplined.

Cole Ford

Former NFL kicker sought in shooting at Siegfried & Roy home.  Like something out of Ace Ventura ? Pet Detective, Las Vegas Police have identified the suspect in the drive-by shooting at Siegfried & Roy?s home.

In Ace Ventura, Ray Finkel lost his job as a place kicker for the Miami Dolphins after missing crucial kicks.  Cole Murdoch Ford, 31, whose three-year NFL career ended after he missed crucial kicks during the 1997 season, was named in a felony warrant stemming from the Sept. 21 shooting.

Raiders center Adam Treu said he and Mr. Ford were played together on the 1997 Raiders team. “I heard some stories. I was shocked there was a weapon involved,” Treu said. “I spent a year with Cole. Something must’ve happened after he was here.”

Mr. Ford was drafted out of the University of Southern California in 1995 by the Pittsburgh Steelers but was released before the season began. He signed with the Raiders and remained on the team for three seasons before being cut.

After making 89 percent of his field goals in 1995 and 77 percent in 1996, he was successful on just 59 percent of his attempts in 1997. Mr. Ford’s misses included several short ones, and often came at crucial times in games.

Las Vegas Police identified Mr. Ford as the owner of a white minivan from which shots were fired at the compound. Fortunately no one was injured but the shot-gun blasts left shattered windows and a hole in a wall.

A police spokesperson said law enforcement considers Mr. Ford armed and dangerous.  The officials think he may be living in a hotel or camping in southern Nevada or nearby states.

Mr. Ford faces six felony warrant charges of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Please read the last tip very carefully.  It says ?corn starch? and not ?corn muffins.?  I ruined fifteen decks of cards trying to follow this tip before I realized I wasn?t supposed to smear greasy, butter-coated corn muffins on the deck.

A Better Sleight of Hand

A.J. DeAvila

This is for all of you young magicians that just started magic, and are being introduced with sleight of hand. Have you ever noticed that some magicians usually crack their knuckles during or before a show?  Did you ever wonder why they did that?

Whenever you are performing street magic, close-up magic, or stage magic, try cracking your knuckles. That helps a lot! It relaxes your hands so that when you are performing sleight of hand, your hands will be ready.

If you can’t crack your knuckles, just simply open and close your hands as fast as you can, so your hands can be ready for your next move.

The key is to avoid letting your hands get stiff or sweaty.  Either condition may prevent you from performing certain moves such as the “French Drop.”

Ways to Learn Hundreds of Magic Tricks for Free

You don’t have to be a beginning magician, and you don’t have to be a Pro to take advantage of this tip.

An easy way to find tricks that match your ability is to search for them on the web.

I once didn’t believe this, but when I tried, I was amazed. Just simply go to Google and begin your Search! I usually type in: “Free Street Magic tricks for advanced magicians”

Then all you have to do is push ENTER, and Alakazam! You found what you were looking for…

Ways to Reduce your Stress Before Performance

A) Visualize yourself having fun with your audience. Relax by remembering mistakes can happen but you have practiced enough to know the show will probably go well.

You see, when we think about it, there is no real problem when performing magic.

B) Before performance, feel and remember this:

“Stephen Hawking, one of the great modern physicists of the world, is reported to have said that we are on a minor planet of a very average star located within the outer limits of one of a hundred thousand million galaxies.

Are your problems really significant in light of this?”

Invisible Thread – (lifetime supply)

Most Magicians don’t know this, and that’s why telling you here.

If you want a cheaper way of invisible thread that lasts forever, then you’ve come to the right tip. 🙂

Whenever you are at a crafts store or a Fabrics store, ask them if they have Wooly Nylon. It costs about $4 a spool. More than you could ever use?

A Better Way Of Fanning The Deck

Did you know that some Poker dealers use corn starch for fanning powder? That’s True! If you are having trouble fanning the deck or you have a “bad” deck, try putting a little bit of corn starch on each card, so that way they can slide easier whenever you try to do a card flourish.

PS: Don’t put on too much! Put some on a cloth, then rub it on the cards. It will be a lot easier. 🙂
