Master Illusionist Dan Bowen, of Beyond Impossible Entertainment will perform for home-schooling families in late February, 2004. You probably know Mr. Bowen from his very successful schedule in the Connecticut area.
He performs about 25 shows a month, has been on television and even invited to perform with one of the largest singing group with a segment called ?The Hand is Quicker than the Eye.?
You can see him regularly at On The Border Mexican Caf? in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Mr. Bowen offers a more intimate setting for his magic. As he notes, “Magic is fascinating to begin with, but when it’s that close to you, it?s even more amazing.” When you have a chance to see Mr. Bowen perform, regardless of the venue, it is amazing.

Steve Wyrick?s new show at the Aladdin received a discouraging C+ grade from local critics. Notes Mike Weatherford of the Las Vegas Review Journal: ?It’s that talking stuff that’s troublesome. Wyrick never seems sure if he’s David Blaine, David Copperfield or David Carradine. He wears black leather pants, but he’s no studmuffin. He tries to make jokes, telling people on the sidewalk, ?I’m Frank, Steve Wyrick’s brother,? but for all they know he might be.?
The critic has hope that Mr. Wyrick will adopt his natural style ? sort of a ?I can?t get no respect? motif ? to his advantage.

Incredible defeat for Lance Burton in his new hometown reported in the Las Vegas Sun today. As many of us know, Lance was once the champion at the celebrity NFL “Sal Celebrity Selectors” contest. The celebrities were required to correctly book the play-off games leading up to the Super Bowl.Mr. Burtonheld the title until it was stolen from him by the apparently-lucky Clint Holmes last year. He failed to re-take the crown this year and lost to the unlikely champion, Rita Rudner.
Said Ms. Rudner: ?[her husband] would just tell me what color pants to root for and I’d root for the team with that color pants. I never thought I’d win anything even remotely relating to football.” Her reward, a gold painted Nurf Football.

Jamy Ian Swiss and Roberto Giobbi will bring their incredible Card Clinic to the Midwest. We can expect to see an advertisement for the Clinic in February?s Genii magazine. On March 12-14th, 2004, the Clinic will be available for a select few ? no more than 20 may attend ? in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cincinnati seems an appropriate location for the Card Clinic as it is home to Haines House of Cards and the U.S. Playing Card Company. If you can plan to attend the night before the Clinic, Mr. Swiss promises a private tour of the Ken Klosterman collection.
Finally, if you would like to see a very well put together website with one-of-a-kind material, visith the Jamy Ian Swiss webshop. You can pick up a copy of the Master?s latest lecture notes, a CD-ROM collection of the 1994-2000 Genii book reviews and one of the best books on the subject, Shattering Illusions.

Trixie Bond is scheduled to appear this week at The Magic Castle?s famous Close-Up Gallery. Ms. Bond has been working on a special routine for the week and if you are anywhere near Hollywood, you would do well to visit.
As we reported earlier, there is a chance The Magic Castle as we know it may cease to exist depending upon the intentions of the owners, The Glover Family, and the Castle Partners, LLC. One of my favorite stage magicians is working The Palace of Mystery, Mystina. So it is a two for one deal. Two fantastic female magicians in a venue that cannot be beat. Great week. I hope it is not the last.
