The Flicking Fingers Movie: Jump On the Bandwagon!

Cub Barbie

After reading all of the reviews of The Flicking Fingers, I knew I had to hate them. I tend to run the opposite direction from any crowd and jump away from any bandwagon. Still, the people that liked The Flicking Fingers (hereinafter ?the Fingers?) were all people I?ve met and respect. They were good people who cared about magic and were not likely to jump on bandwagons.

Sure, I saw their video excerpt at Penguin Magic and found it to be cool, but still.

But still, how could I like the Fingers if everyone else liked them? I?m a Cubs Fan and have been since 1960. I know what it is like to live in the world of the lonely fan convinced there are things that I should and should not do. I should like something because it is truly good (or in the Cubs? sense, not horrible) and not because others like it. That?s why I still wear leisure suits ? I?m not a trend-follower.

But let me tell you, the Fingersare all that you and I have heard. They are deserving of the greatreputation that has moved across the six continents like the special, distinct smell that fills an office during a job interview.

(I know there are seven continents but I was talking to a guy on the Internet from Antarctica last night and he never heard of the Fingers. He was not a magician but a chess player but still, he wasn?t aware of the Fingers or even the David Blaine in a box deal. He kicked my chess playing butt in seven moves. What else could I expect, the guy doesn?t keep up on current events and doesn?t know magic phenomenon so he probably just spends all his frozen time…

To heck with him and his isolationist ways.)

The Band Wagon

So now, I?m on the bandwagon. I?m upfront with the spotted dog and riding shotgun as our wagon travels around the globe proclaiming how entertaining the Fingers truly are. Their movie was shot back in October 2002, a year ago, and follows them on a journey through their ten day tour.

In the course of the tour, you get to know or at least see the components of the Fingers as they attend conventions and perform shows. They lay out around 20 routines and teach you and me how to perform them. You?ll see some bonus material ? my favorite thing about DVDs ? with the FISM act of Pit Hartling and Jorg Alexander and others. They even included some out-takes that are very entertaining.

You?ll be able to see, like I did, that the Fingers have something special to share. This type of movie is not just exciting to watch but it makes you ? or at least me ? excited about getting out there and performing. Make these resolutions for true happiness: 1) get the Flicking Fingers Movie DVD (great price at Penguin Magic plus free shipping); 2) don?t bet money on chess games with anyone from Antarctica; 3) don?t count the Cubs out but don?t put any money on them; and 4) always take Beano before a job interview.

Check out The Flicking Fingers: The Movie on DVD. I promise you won?t be sorry but don?t let my endorsement of the DVD make you want to avoid it. Sometimes the bandwagon is going in the right direction and you just need to jump on.
