What Does 793.8 Mean to You?

{mosimage}If you know the meaning of 793.8, you are in the club. You probably spent or spend hours in public libraries searching for magic books. We worked in libraries — I know, that's what makes us so popular — for all five years in junior high school. We knew only one spot in the Dewey Decimal System, 793.8. At that location on the shelves, we could find books by Harry Blackstone, Jr., Harry Houdini and John Scarne. (If you are looking for something fun and Dewey-related, try this link for a quiz/challenge based on the system. Or don't. It's your choice.)

We were doing a search on Google for magic books and ran across news about Dennis DeBondt a magician, comedian and motivational speaker. He is billed as the Sears Tower of Magic, reflecting his 6'7" stature and Chicago ties. By review of his client list, Dennis is doing very well in front of several different types of audiences.

Dennis performs for both corporate clients as well as schools. It was from a clipping concerning the school shows, that Google hit on the Dewey Decimal entry 793.8. "That's where the magic books are!" he is quoted as saying during his show. You gotta love that kind of reference.

But more about Dennis. He trained for a while with Chicago's Second City and his clients testify that he is a "very funny magician." Dennis has a show coming up in Racine, Wisconsin on Tuesday, October 29th. If you are even close to Racine, you should check it out.

We've included a link to Dennis on the big old web list on this page and also a link to his show on the insidemagic.com calendar. If you have news, show information or reviews of a magical nature, send them here. If you have a show date you'd like to advertise, hit the calendar and tell every one of the folks that hit this page 5,000 times a week.
