Real Magic-By:JAMIE-G
At a very young age, (5-6 years old) I was having kidney problems (renal failure). I was going to the hospital all the time for blood tests. It was so bad that I had to be put in a special class because most of my time was in the hospital.
I knew more doctors and nurses then I had friends in grade school. I would just sit in the hospital room doing absolutely nothing but waiting for my next blood test. One day my parents got me bit by the magic bug. My parents were yard sailing one day and they noticed a used magic kit. It was called “A Hat Full Of Magic”. Man it was the greatest thing.
When I opened the kit I can remember all the good stuff was gone. It didn’t matter to me because it was magic. Any ways my life didn’t change much when my teens came. My high school years were pretty rough.
My hospital stays were much longer and I was getting worse with my health. I would read books and watch videos from the local library every time I had long stays in the hospital. At this time I started buying small…

At this time I started buying small tricks (mostly close up).
I was limited to what I could buy because magic cost so much money and I didn’t have a job. I couldn’t even cut grass or anything like that because my health was so bad. I also started to make up my own magic trick from ones that I read about or watched.
All my friends from high school were out partying and going out with there girl friends and I was the boy in the hospital going no where.
My kidney failure finally pulled me out of school and my blood pressure was out of control, but I was still able to practice my magic. I found out that Windsor had a local magic club (The Windsor Magic Circle Ring 116).

I started to go to the meetings I found a whole set of friends. It was
great that they knew magic and they treated me like a person.
In school, what little time I had there, no one wanted to be friends with the kidney boy. (that?s what they called me in school) I hated that name. The magic club changed my life. I finally went into kidney failure and had to go on dialysis.
I was the youngest one there. The entire unit was full of old people. It took me a long time to get used to the treatments. Three times a week for three and a half hours each time. This went on for almost five years. I was getting better and better at magic and I was getting really good at making magic effects as well. (magic is all I did) I was doing magic at the kidney unit while I was on the machine, for the people waiting to go on the machine and for the people outside the hospital.
I was doing magic everywhere. I was even doing birthday parties. The doctors could not figure out what was keeping me going. I had two strokes on the dialysis machine and one minor heart attack from to much fluid around my heart and lungs.
Then one day I got a phone call that changed my life. It was London Hospital. They called to let me know that they had a kidney for me. I had problems with the transplant so I was in the hospital for 8 months.
The first week after my transplant I was walking and doing magic in other people’s rooms, for the doctors and other peoples families. No one could believe how good my magic was.
Everyone knows that magic is my best friend. I remember going in this little girls room and doing magic (Rickie the magic puppet with the spring) for her. We laughed and had a great time. I went in her room the next day to see her and she wasn’t there. The nurse told me that she had died. She was waiting for a heart transplant. Her mother came up to me and said that that was the first time she had smiled in months and that the magic gave her and her mother just a little bit of hope.
Because of my illness I am able to do magic for very sick children and adults. Matter of fact I’ve done magic for dying children and adults, people waiting for transplants, children and adults that have been badly burned.
My transplant kidney failed about seven months ago and I’m back on dialysis. I’m very sick again and I’m not sure what lies in my future. But I have seen my magic heal and give hope not just to other people but to myself as well.
As sick as I am, I’m still doing magic shows and still making magic effects and the doctors are still asking the same question they did years ago “How can he do that?”
The hospital that I got my transplant from six years ago still books me every year to do a Christmas show for all the people waiting for a transplants and recovering from one. They pay me and put me up for the night or however long I want to stay. They also pay for all my meals and where ever I want to go there is always some one willing to bring me. London hospital is about 200km from Windsor.
I’m turning 30 this July and I have seen enough pain and hard times to last a life time. I have done magic for people so sick that normal people have a hard time looking at. I have seen miracles happen with magic. And if anyone tells me that magic isn’t real well that’s just plain bull s$%t.
Magic has kept me alive. I not famous but some day I just might be. One thing is for sure, I know magic and you can bet all the money in the world that magic knows me.
If your looking for me then just look for the skinny guy doing magic every where, that is where I will be.
